About
Rooted in local collaboration and curiosity, Down Home is an exceptional farm-and-forest to table experience in Markdale, Ontario. Join Chef Joel Gray and wine connoisseur Hannah Harradine in their 16-seater farmhouse restaurant (or al fresco, for that matter) for an adventurous meal inspired by their own personal garden, local producers, and freshly foraged goods.
With “sourcing local” being a bit of a misnomer these days, rest assured that Down Home is the real deal. In fact you’d be hard pressed to find a place that takes it as seriously as Hannah and Joel. As Feast On® ambassadors, a whopping 98% of their ingredients are sourced locally, leaving guests with a true taste of Grey, Bruce, and Simcoe Counties.
Forging meaningful connections with the community and sharing their stories through food is what makes the experience at Down Home so special. You’ll hear Hannah and Joel talk about the organic produce they get from the folks at Sideroad Farms in Walters Falls, how they source their pork from Good Family Farms in Meaford, or the honey they purchase from Donald’s Honey in Owen Sound. Plus, with acres of farmland and forest right out their back door, what they can’t source is grown in their own gardens or freshly foraged from the land.
What does this mean for you? How about a wild and local nine-course tasting menu and Ontario wine pairing, ever-changing with the seasons and whatever whims of brilliance come knocking. A second best to actually tasting each dish is the explanation of the ingredients: how they were prepared and where they were sourced.
At the end of the night, peruse their collection of pre-made fresh goods, art, and glassware all crafted by local artisans, and take a little of Down Home home with you.
