About
Learn about the history of the mills and the life of the millers, and become familiar with the traditions of this special island. A fascinating experience at the pace of the windmill and watermill era, brought together in a site unique in America! Following a famine, the inhabitants of L'Isle-aux-Coudres obtained permission to build a water mill in 1825, then a wind mill in 1836, as well as a miller's house. The mills then fell into oblivion before being restored in the 1980s. Restoration work respects the integrity of the mills, which retain their heavy stone millstones for grinding grain. During your visit, you can watch the miller milling wheat and buckwheat on one of our guided or self-guided tours. A visit during the summer is well worth the detour. Located on the enchanting Isle-aux-Coudres in the Charlevoix region. You can take home freshly ground flour as a souvenir.
