About
Since 2012, Salt Spring Kitchen Co. has been crafting bold, small-batch jams, preserves, and hot sauces that elevate everyday meals. What started in founder Melanie Mulherin’s home kitchen—with handwritten labels and a love for distinctive flavors—has grown into a full-scale jam factory, retail shop, and tasting room on Salt Spring Island.
Inspired by her family’s deep-rooted love of food, Melanie set out to create something unique. Her first product, Spicy Tomato Savoury Spread, quickly became a farmers’ market favorite—a next-level ketchup replacement perfect for burgers and charcuterie boards.
Still made in small batches with high-quality ingredients, Salt Spring Kitchen’s collection of savory, spicy, and sweet creations is designed for pairing, sharing, and transforming everyday meals. Whether spread on a sandwich, served with cheese, or gifted to a foodie friend, each jar brings a taste of Salt Spring Island’s creativity and culinary spirit.

About Southern Gulf Islands
The Southern Gulf Islands—Salt Spring, Galiano, Pender, Mayne, and Saturna—rise like verdant crowns from the Salish Sea, offering a rich tapestry of flavors and creativity. Each island offers its own unique character, woven together by shared values of community, artistry, and a deep connection to the land.
Salt Spring Island, the largest of the group, is a haven for food lovers, known for its strong locavore culture, artisan producers, and organic vineyards.
