Canadian Food Scenes to Discover this Spring, Part 2: Banff & Lake Louise

Par Sarah Israel/

In Banff and Lake Louise, food lovers are in for a delightful experience, embracing the rich culinary scene inspired by Alberta’s agricultural history. The area is home to an impressive selection of 150 eateries and cafes, offering a wide range of dining options from casual pubs to upscale fine dining establishments.

One of the standout features of Banff and Lake Louise dining is the emphasis on fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. Chefs in the region take pride in crafting their menus using produce from nearby farms and ranches in Alberta and British Colombia. This commitment to quality is evident everywhere, whether you’re enjoying a cozy meal in a backcountry lodge, relishing the scenic views in a lakeside restaurant, or indulging in the luxurious atmosphere of a grand hotel.

Here are a few spots to add to your Banff & Lake Louise itinerary:

    The Grizzly House

    207 Banff Ave, Banff, AB T1L 1B4

The Banff Grizzly House Restaurant is a landmark destination for thousands of visitors and locals in Banff National Park! Since 1967, this fondue and hot rock restaurant has been serving classic cheese, oil, and chocolate fondues, along with regional classics like bagna càuda and fondue Bourguignonne. Protein options include standards like Alberta beef, buffalo, chicken, and fish, alongside wild game and exotic meats like rattlesnake and ostrich.

Barbara and Peter Steiner opened the Grizzly House in 1967. At the time, it was Western Canada’s first disco and was known for its touring bands and go-go dancers! While disco may not have stood the text of time, the fondue tradition has endured for nearly sixty years. Enjoy this memorable dining experience in a unique setting during your next visit to Banff!
