Exploring the ÉCONOMUSÉE® Network: Must-See Stops in Atlantic Canada

Par Sarah Israel/

We’re back with Part 3 of our ÉCONOMUSÉE® Network series!

If you’re new to our series, an économusée refers to an artisan who is producing their goods in a workshop environment and on a small scale, such as a craft brewer, cheesemaker, chocolatier, and more. ÉCONOMUSÉE® artisans preserve historical knowledge and skills passed down from generation to generation while offering interactive experiences for visitors.

Read Part 2: Foodie Stops Across Québec

The concept of the économusée emerged in Québec in the early 1990s, and today, ÉCONOMUSÉE® stops can be found across Canada and around the world. The opportunity to meet a passionate artisan is at the heart of the ÉCONOMUSÉE® experience.

In our ÉCONOMUSÉE® Network series, we’re sharing must-visit Canadian stops where unique experiences go hand-in-hand with delicious flavours. Today, we’re taking a look at a few foodie stops in Atlantic Canada that are worth the detour:

  • Island Chocolates Company

    7 Main Street, Victoria-by-the-Sea, PEI C0A 2G0

The history of Island Chocolates Company begins with Victoria's Tea Room and Crafts, an early business started by Ron and Linda's family. When they wanted to move their business towards becoming more sustainable, they were assisted by Charlie Sigvardsen, owner of Charlie's Chocolate Factory. Charlie shared his knowledge, recipes and passion for chocolate with them, from hand-dipping chocolates to sourcing quality ingredients and calculating operating costs. This training has resulted in the chocolate factory as it is today, featuring quality craftsmanship and top-notch ingredients.

After you visit the chocolate factory, don't forget to visit the shop to take home a gourmet souvenir!
