A Taste of Mississauga with Suresh Doss of CBC's "Locals Welcome"

By Ontario Culinary/

Mississauga is a food haven just waiting to be discovered! As the sixth-largest city in Canada, this vibrant area on the outskirts of Toronto is home to a diverse population, with over 40 languages represented throughout the community. A diverse population means a thriving foodie scene: at last count, there were over 1,200 restaurants serving up cuisines from over 150 countries throughout the city!

It's easy to get overwhelmed in the face of so much choice, but not to worry: the experts are here to help. In 2023, Mississauga teamed up with renowned food and travel writer Suresh Doss to create the ultimate guide to Mississauga’s vibrant cultural cuisines. Short of Suresh personally chauffeuring you around the city, this pass is the most sure-fire way to ensure that your taste buds get the best that Mississauga has to offer!

The Eat Here Passport

What is the Passport?

Ready to unlock a world of culinary delights? The Eat Here Passport, curated by renowned food writer Suresh Doss, is your key to Mississauga’s vibrant cultural cuisines. Journey through the diverse neighborhoods of Mississauga, where you’ll have the chance to explore hidden gems, from sweet and savory Middle-Eastern desserts to the irresistible loaded Colombian arepas that transport you to the bustling streets of Bogotá.

How does the Passport work?

This easy-to-download guide lives in your phone’s browser and can be saved to your home screen – no app download required. Once you have it, explore the list of places hand-picked by Suresh himself AND make sure you check-in using the passport along the way so you earn yourself some points toward prizes.

The best part? Suresh provides some tips on suggested dishes so you know exactly what to order and even recommends skipping the menu and ordering right from the counter in some spots – you’ll be ordering like a regular in no time!

About CBC's Locals Welcome

In the diverse landscape of Canada's food culture, Suresh Doss stands out as a passionate advocate for the underappreciated spots – the small, family-run restaurants and local favourites often overlooked by the press or awards. In suburbs and neighbourhoods across the country, Doss will be revealing the tales woven into every dish, exploring the stories behind the counter, and celebrating the resilience and diversity that define Canada's culinary scenes.

Keep an eye out for Locals Welcome, coming to CBC Gem in 2025!
