Exploring the ÉCONOMUSÉE® Network: Foodie Stops Across Québec

By Sarah Israel/

Great Taste of Canada

We’re back with the second instalment of our ÉCONOMUSÉE® Network series!

If you missed Part 1, an économusée refers to an artisan who is producing their goods in a workshop environment and on a small scale, such as a craft brewer, cheesemaker, chocolatier, and more. ÉCONOMUSÉE® artisans preserve historical knowledge and skills passed down from generation to generation while offering interactive experiences for visitors.

The concept of the économusée emerged in Québec in the early 1990s, and today, ÉCONOMUSÉE® stops can be found across Canada and around the world. The opportunity to meet a passionate artisan is at the heart of the ÉCONOMUSÉE® experience.

In our ÉCONOMUSÉE® Network series, we’re sharing must-visit Canadian stops where unique experiences go hand-in-hand with delicious flavours. Today, we’re sharing a whopping 27 interesting and delicious foodie stops across the province of Québec:

  • Fromagerie du Pied-de-Vent - Cheesemaker

149 Chem. de la Pointe Basse, Havre-aux-Maisons, QC

Pied-de-Vent is an artisanal cheese factory that has mastered the art of aging to enhance the flavours of the Magdalen region. The company's cheeses are made from its herd of Canadienne cows, with theirs being the only dairy cow farm in the Magdalen Islands. The herd is fed on the diversity of the Islands' forage land, without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. This type of feeding produces a unique milk that confers a distinct flavour to the Pied-De-Vent cheeses. Try these cheeses and get a true sense of the terroir: the wind, the sea spray and the Magdalen soil.
